Food for Thought

Passengers on Jet Blue were able to watch speculation on their fate as they circled LA for 3 hours before attempting an emergency landing.

I struggle with weather or not this is an issue. Could speculation by reporters without all the information incite panic on the plane in a situation that would otherwise be under control? Were reporters aware that their broadcasts could be seen by passengers, and if not, would it have changed what they said? How much was this taken into consideration when deciding what information to release to the press?

Review: State of Fear

I just finished reading State of Fear by Michael Crichton. While I enjoyed the book, I didn't think it moved along quite as well as most of his books. As with most of his books, Crichton uses State of Fear as a chance to highlight some of his concerns about current society. In this book, he asks us to be more careful with the faith we put in statements based on research, showing how the same scientific results, framed in different ways, can support conflicting theories. Definitely a worthwhile read.

Maybe too dedicated to his sport?

I think this man is way too dedicated to his sport: An Australian Rules Football player plans to amputate his finger to help his game. YIKES!

Quote of the day

On the Boeing machinists' strike:

"I don't think it probably has an impact on orders if it lasts less than 90 days"
- J.B. Groh, an analyst at brokerage D.A. Davidson.

Way to take a stand, JB!

Another sign that I'm getting old...

Justin Jeffre (98 Degrees) is running for mayor of Cincinnati. Wasn't 98 Degrees a "boy band" a couple days ago?
